Dear Year 11

We are writing to you this week as it is officially your final week with us at John Cabot Academy and we are deeply disappointed not to give you a fitting farewell under the current circumstances, as we have done for previous year groups.

The last three months have been somewhat strange for everyone, but the lockdown happened at a particularly significant time for you. You may be feeling a whole range of emotions about the abrupt end of your time at JCA, being unable to sit your final exams, and missing out on other rites of passage as you finish your secondary education and move onto the next stage in your life. While we can’t celebrate in the usual way, we want you to know that you will still be very much missed.

Your teachers were disappointed not to finish the year with you, but know that you have achieved brilliant things as a year group. We truly hope the final outcomes on results day reflect this, as we know how hard you have worked over the last five years. The lockdown period has only been a small chunk of your journey with us, and it is the whole of your time here that we will remember fondly. There will have been highs and lows for everyone, but with so many successes along the way, we are confident you will go on to do great things.

Results day

As lockdown is gradually easing, we are now planning to open for results day (Thursday 20th August) so that you will be able to come into school to collect your results in person. We are not sure exactly how this will look, as we will be acting on the up-to-date guidance at that time, but please do keep an eye out for any further communication about this. It is likely that there will be some things in place to ensure everyone’s safety, and respecting this will be really important in ensuring that it can go ahead.

Hoodies

Several people have asked about collection of leaver’s hoodies. We can reassure you that, in order for these to be distributed out safely, they will also be available to collect on results day.

Graduation Event

In addition to results day, we also hope to offer a ‘graduation’ event later on in October/November at JCA, where you will be able to come and collect your official GCSE certificates. This will be another opportunity to celebrate both individual successes and your success as a year group

While some events have unfortunately not been able to go ahead this summer, it will mean the world to us to see you on results day, should you choose to come and collect your results in person. As always, there will be staff there to celebrate with you and offer support if needed. We can’t wait to see you to both say a big hello after some months apart, and to take the opportunity to say a proper goodbye.

Thank you for being such a wonderful year group. It really has been our privilege to work with you, and we wish you all the very best of luck for the future. Whether your next step provides a platform to build on your success this year, or a fresh start to do something you love, grasp the opportunity with both hands and give it your all. Every single one of you is so capable of greatness.
